Metaspec manufactures test specimens used in quality control testing for Specification ASTM B580, which covers anodic oxide coatings on aluminum. Because anodic oxide coatings can be produced with many different characteristics, not all of the tests referenced in this specification will apply to every coating type. Some of these tests are designed for the anodized parts in question, but separate test specimens may be used when needed.
The following is a list of tests in Specification ASTM B580 that require test specimens. Click on the test method number or contact us for more information about specimens required for each test.
ASTM B117 Salt Spray (Fog) Test
ASTM B136 Stain Resistance of Anodic Coatings on Aluminum
ASTM B137 Measurement of Coating Mass Per Unit Area on Anodically Coated Aluminum
ASTM B244 Thickness of Anodic Coatings on Aluminum and of Other Nonconductive Coatings on Nonmagnetic Basis Metals with Eddy-Current Instruments
ASTM B368 Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid-Salt Spray (Fog) Testing - CASS Test
ASTM B457 Impedance of Anodic Coatings on Aluminum
ASTM B487 Measurement of Metal and Oxide Coating Thickness by Microscopical Examination of Cross Section
ASTM E430 Measurement of Gloss of High-Gloss Surfaces by Abridged Goniophotometry
