This Aerospace Material Specification covers the requirements for electrodeposited cadmium plating. The cadmium plating described in this specification falls into three different types (plating treatments) and three different classes (minimum thickness requirements). The production or quality control requirements generally require that the parts being plated be tested for conformance to AMS-QQ-P-416. However, some parts (due to shape or size) can't be tested. In those cases, the specification describes 'separate specimens' that are plated together with the other parts and then tested at the end of the plating process for conformance.
The following is a list of tests in Specification SAE AMS-QQ-P-416 that use separate test specimens. Click on the test method number for more information about specimens required for each test.
SAE AMS-QQ-P-416 §4.5.2 (4.6.3) Corrosion Resistance (also see ASTM B117)
SAE AMS-QQ-P-416 §4.5.3 (4.6.4) Hydrogen Embrittlement (see ASTM E8)
