This Aerospace Material Specification covers the requirements for silver plating on metal parts with a nickel strike between the basis metal and the silver deposit. The production or quality control requirements generally require that the parts being plated be tested for conformance to AMS 2411. However, some parts (due to shape or size) can't be tested. In those cases, the specification describes 'separate specimens' that are plated together with the other parts and then tested at the end of the plating process for conformance.
The following is a list of tests in Specification SAE AMS 2411 that use separate test specimens. Click on the test method number for more information about specimens required for each test.
SAE AMS2411 Separate Test Specimens
SAE AMS2411 §3.4.1 Thickness (see ASTM B487, ASTM B499, ASTM B504, ASTM B567, ASTM B568, or ASTM E376)
SAE AMS2411 §3.4.3 Adhesion (see ASTM B571)
SAE AMS2411 §3.4.5 Quality (Visual Inspection)
SAE AMS2411 §3.4.4 Hydrogen Embrittlement (see ASTM F519)
