SAE AMS2438 Test Specimens

Updated: May 9, 2022

This Aerospace Material Specification covers the requirements for chromium plating. Production or quality control requirements generally require that the parts being plated be tested for conformance to AMS2438. However, some parts (due to shape or size) can't be tested. In those cases, the specification describes 'separate specimens' that are plated together with the other parts and then tested at the end of the plating process for conformance.

The following is a list of tests in Specification SAE AMS2438 that use separate test specimens. Click on the test method number for more information about specimens required for each test.

  • SAE AMS 2438 Separate Test Specimens SAE AMS 2438 §4.3.3.2.1 Thickness SAE AMS 2438 §4.3.3.2.2 Hardness SAE AMS 2438 §4.3.3.2.3 Adhesion SAE AMS 2438 §4.3.3.3 Corrosion

  • SAE AMS 2438 §4.3.3.4 Hydrogen Embrittlement (see ASTM F591)
