ASTM C1135 Tensile Adhesion Glass Substrates
Glass substrates (also called panels) and spacer blocks used in testing sealants by ASTM C1135 (Determining Tensile Adhesion Properties of Structural Sealants). Each substrate is 1" x 3" x 0.25" and is made of clear float glass. The spacer block is 1" x 3" x 1/2", with a 1/2" x 2" square cut-out for the adhesive. This test uses two substrates with one spacer block (usually made from PTFE) to make one adhesive test assembly. Five test assemblies are prepared for each sealant and substrate combination being tested (ten substrates total). Although ASTM C1135 uses glass substrates, other substrate materials may be used.
