ASTM D2290 Reduced Section Specimens
Test specimens used in ASTM D2290 (Apparent Hoop Tensile Strength of Plastic or Reinforced Plastic Pipe by Split Disk Method). This test method describes test specimens suitable for three different test procedures using reinforced-thermosetting resin pipe or thermoplastic pipe. The specimens are cut from the pipe material being tested to create a ring (exact dimensions depend on the pipe material). Holes are drilled in the pipe to create half-circle reduced sections on the edges of the specimens. These specimens are tested in a split disk test fixture to measure the pipe's apparent tensile strength. ASTM D2290 recommends using a minimum of five specimens to obtain a reliable average from the test data.
