ASTM D3528 Double Lap Shear Test Specimens
Metal test specimens used in ASTM D3528 (Strength Properties of Double Lap Shear Adhesive Joints by Tension Loading). These specimens may be made from a variety of different metals, including brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium. This method describes two different bonded lap shear specimen assemblies, Type A and Type B. Both types are available as uncut panels with pre-drilled holes (per Figure 3 and Figure 4, 7" x 7.5"), or as pre-cut specimens that are ready to assemble (per Figure 1 and Figure 2).
The Type A specimen assembly uses 4 pieces for each assembly:
1 piece - 0.125" x 1" x 4.25"
2 pieces – 0.062" x 1" x 4.25"
1 spacer – 0.125" x 1" x 1.25"
The Type B specimen also uses 4 pieces:
2 pieces - 0.125" x 1" x 4.25"
2 pieces – 0.062" x 1" x 1"
