ASTM D4060 Taber Abraser Metal Panel
Metal test specimens used in ASTM D4060 (Abrasion Resistance of Organic Coatings by the Taber Abraser). The test specimens are 4-inch x 4-inch square panels (100 mm x 100 mm) with a ¼-inch (6.5 mm) center hole. The panels are drop-in compatible with the Taber Abraser. Both surfaces are substantially plane and parallel. These test panels can be made from a range of different metals, including multiple grades of aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel and many others. Typical thickness is 0.040-inch (1 mm) to 0.062-inch (1.6 mm), but any thickness is available upon request. The test can also be run using 4-inch diameter (100 mm) metal discs with a ¼-inch (6.5 mm) center hole.
This test is commonly used to evaluate the performance of organic and inorganic coatings. Three panels are typically used in testing. The test panel provides a standard substrate so that tests are more directly comparable across time. Test panels can be provided “as-rolled”, sanded, or polished to your requirements.
These abrasion test panels also conform with ASTM G195 (Conducting Wear Tests Using a Rotary Platform Abraser), ASTM F1978 (Measuring Abrasion Resistance of Metallic Thermal Spray Coatings by Using the Taber Abraser), and ASTM B1023 (Abrasion Resistance of Hard Anodic Coatings by a Taber-Type Abraser).
