ASTM F483 Corrosion Test Specimens
Test specimens used in ASTM F483 total immersion corrosion testing for aircraft maintenance chemicals. Aircraft maintenance chemicals can potentially cause corrosion on components and structures. This test is used to screen chemicals by measuring weight loss and comparing against specified weight change limits. This test uses four test specimens of the same alloy (from the same sheet stock). Each specimen measures 2" x 1" x 0.06" and has a 1/8" (0.125") mounting hole at one end. Three of the four specimens are used in the immersion test and are compared with the fourth (control) specimen after testing. Metaspec makes ASTM F483 test specimens in a wide range of metals and alloys, including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, brass, and bronze.
