ASTM G123 U-Bend Specimens
U-bend test specimens used in ASTM G123 (Stress-Corrosion Cracking of Stainless Alloys with Different Nickel Content in Boiling Acidified Sodium Chloride Solution). U-bend test specimens are made from a rectangular piece of metal (4" x 3/4" x 1/8") that is bent at the center to form a U shape; the ends of the specimen are fastened with a bolt to stress the specimen. These U-bend test specimens can be made from a number of different alloys, but it's recommended to use a 304 or 316 stainless steel specimen as a control in ASTM G123.
