ASTM G50 Corrosion Test Specimens

Metal test specimens used in ASTM G50 (Conducting Atmospheric Corrosion Tests on Metals). These test specimens can be made from a variety of metal alloys, depending on the metal or material being evaluated. The recommended size is 4" x 6" x 0.032", but larger sizes or irregular shapes may also be used. Because the specimens are expected to corrode during the course of the test, and need to be identified despite any corrosion, there are a variety of ways to label and identify individual specimens. Some options are stamped serial numbers, edge notches, drilled holes arranged in patterns, or stainless steel tags attached to the specimen by an insulated cord.
