MIL-DTL-5541 Quality Control Test Specimens
Process control test specimens used for MIL-DTL-5541 (Chemical Conversion Coatings on Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys). These test specimens are used for process control and quality conformance by manufacturers, platers, and inspectors. Quality control test specimens are 3" x 10", with a minimum thickness of 0.020" (0.032" thickness is most commonly used). MIL-DTL-5541 recommends using either the same aluminum alloy and temper that is treated during the monthly process control period, or 2024-T3 aluminum for class 1A coatings and 6061-T6 aluminum for class 3 coatings.
Metaspec offers MIL-DTL-5541 test panels in a wide range of alloys and surface finishes. Contact us to learn more about customized test panels.
Regular test panels are PVC-coated on both sides, cut to size, deburred, and packed in bundles. These panels may have some minor surface defects and will have mill oil on the surface, as these are the sheets in “as-received” condition from the aluminum mill.
