MIL-R-81294 §4.6.4.1 Metal Corrosion Test Panels
Test panels used in military specification MIL-R-81294 §4.6.4.1 (Single Panel Corrosion Test). This test uses seven different panels, each made from a different alloy or with a different surface treatment (full list below). Each test panel is 1" x 6" x 0.05", and is bent 45° at one end to serve as a holder on the test rack.
Test Panels:
2024-T3 Clad Aluminum (as rolled surface finish)
7075-T6 Clad Aluminum (as rolled surface finish)
2024-T3 Bare Aluminum (anodized per MIL-A-8625 Type I or Type II)
1020 Steel (polished 65 RMS)
1020 Steel (cadmium plated per QQ-P-416 Type I Class 3)
AZ31B Magnesium (chrome pickled per MIL-M-3171 Type I)**
6Al-4V Titanium (as rolled surface finish)
**Note that the MIL-M-3171 chrome pickle treatment specified in MIL-R-81294 is no longer used or commercially available in the US. Metaspec can provide untreated magnesium panels or an alternate surface treatment instead of MIL-M-3171.
