SAE AS1241 Hydrolytic & Thermal Stability Test Specimens
These metal test specimens are used in SAE AS1241D §4.3 hydrolytic stability testing and in SAE AS1241D §4.4 thermal stability testing. Each test specimen is 1" x 1" x 0.062" with four 1/16" holes drilled at each corner of the specimen. SAE AS1241 requires ten specimens made from steel, cadmium, aluminum, magnesium, silver, copper, and titanium (alloys listed below). The specimens are polished (except for the cadmium metal specimen) and cleaned before testing. The specimens are tied together in two parallelogram assemblies per Figure 4 in SAE AS1241D. These specimens are individually packaged (not assembled) and are ready for use in the laboratory.
